"E" is for Ent. Ents are an old race of 'tree folk' that appeared in Tolkien's Middle-earth when the Elves did. While Ents are extremely long-lived, they are not immortal in the same sense as the Elves: they age with the passage of time, albeit very slowly. Ents exhibit wide variation in personal traits (height, heft, coloring, even the number of digits), as they came to resemble somewhat the specific types of trees that they shepherded.
