Some have asked and some have wondered about time within the game. How many days and months are there? How long is a month or a year? This section hopes to answer your questions.
Measurement of Time
In Real Life = In The Game
1 Week = 1 Month
1 Month = 4 Months
3 Months = 1 Year
1 Year = 4 Years
Well, many people have often wondered, "Just how fast can I go? How far do I actually move and how long does it take?". The answers to these are listed below, starting with how many feet can be moved in a round:
Small (2'-4 1/2') 20 feet per round *
Medium (4 3/4'-7 1/2') 40 feet per round *
Large (7 3/4'-10') 60 feet per round *
Giant (10'1"-30') 85 feet per round
Immense (30'1"-70') 150 feet per round
Colossal (70'+) 230 feet per round **
* Add 10 feet per round if character is of the Barbarian Class
** Unless special notation is used.
Above is listed walking speed, add x2 if jogging, x3 if sprinting and x4 for a full run. If jogging only one attack action may be taken, even if you have multiple attacks. If you are sprinting or running, you may not attack at all. Same goes with defense, one attack on a jog, and no defense on a sprint or run, as your movement replaces your defense.
Time:
If you break down each category of size and do the math on how long each takes to travel one mile, you would have varying figures for the size classes. Granted this adds a degree of structure, but does take away from the role play flavor we here wish to set. In this spirit, a table was made that, though may not be accurate in terms of actual math, does suit the flavor we wish to ascribe to, for purpose of a relative position and fun factor.
Small and Medium Creatures: 3 miles per hour
Large and Giant Creatures: 6 miles per hour
Immense Creatures: 9 miles per hour
Colossal Creatures: 18 miles per hour
So, in an 8-hour day, a Medium-sized creature can move 24 miles before resting, which is no less than a 5 hour period after such exertion.
Forced March:
It is possible to do what is known as a Forced March,. but it does incur penalties, for each 1/2 hour over the 8, the creature takes a cumulative -1 penalty to Strength and Constitution. If a failed roll occurs from either of these, d10 damage, unsoakable is delivered and the person or creature must rest for no less than 2 times the normal amount of time they would have to normally rest (10 hours instead of 5) and may take no action other than rest, as exhaustion sets in.
Running for Extended Periods of Time:
It is possible to run, but to attempt to run for more than 2 hours incurs penalties. For a jog, it's a cumulative -2 penalty, for sprint it is a -3 and a full run is a -4 roll to Strength and Constitution. If either roll fails any time after the second hour, the person or creature immediately takes 20 points of unsoakable damage and must rest for one full day.
Animals Used for Travel:
Many creatures, from War Pigs to Griffons, are used for transport of people and things across distances. Use the same penalties as listed above, only double the time before fatigue and rolls are needed.
Movement Hampered:
Sometimes, your movement will be slowed due to many different factors, such as weather, terrain and climate. In these situations where movement is lessened, it is impossible to sprint or run, only jog is allowed, for obvious reasons. Below are some conditions that can hamper movement, and by how much:
Non restricted movement: Clear path, well-traveled road, open steppe or plain.
3/4 movement: Normal Rocky surface, uneven surface, pits and crags in small degrees.
1/2 movement ***: Heavy rain, washouts, Moderate snowfall, partial iced trails.
1/4 movement ***: Undergrowth, thick bramble, fog, dense forest, sight (magical or otherwise) completely obscured, thick icy surface.
Zero movement ***: Entangled, held, barred or otherwise impaired by heavy brush, ice, snow, etc.
*** Jog cannot be performed in these conditions/
Hopefully, this will give you a good idea about how you can move and how fast, so that when given the situation, you will know your rate of movement and the conditions you can move in, as it may also help in a combat situation.
